Im Griff
The linen towel from my grandmother's inheritance is defined by small holes, resistant stains, and threadbare areas, yet it continues to serve its absorbent purpose over and over again - yielding adaptively to our grasp - surrendering to solid dishes. It is washed and dried to undergo the exact same process again and again - over multiple lifetimes.
The textile is open to experiences and influences, such as smells, movement, wind, and moisture. In the process, it functions as an analog-responsive storage medium. The stored information can be experienced and grasped haptically. The textile cannot be controlled visually, only fixed situationally. 3D scans, like the photograph, generate a seemingly static state. These tectonic moments are projected onto the linen cloth and set in motion.
